Honorary Doctorate Policy
1. Purpose
The Honorary Doctorate Degree is one of the highest recognitions conferred by New Vision International Institute (NVII). It is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional achievement, leadership, service, or contributions that align with the Institute’s mission, values, and global vision.
2. Criteria for Selection
Honorary Doctorate Degrees may be awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions in areas such as:

Humanitarian service

Education, scholarship, or intellectual advancement

Community development and advocacy
-
Faith-based leadership and ministry
-
Arts, culture, or innovation
-
Social justice, diplomacy, or global impact
Recipients are not required to have completed formal academic coursework at NVII.
3. Restrictions on Use of Title
Recipients may be introduced or acknowledged as:
“Honorary Doctor of [Field], New Vision International Institute.”
However, recipients should not use the title “Dr.” before their names in professional, academic, or legal contexts. This distinction ensures clarity between earned academic credentials and honorary recognition.
Acceptable usage examples:

“Jane Doe, Honorary Doctor of Humanitarian Leadership (NVII)”
-
“Recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from New Vision International Institute.”
Unacceptable usage:

“Dr. Jane Doe” in professional or academic documentation.
4. Public Recognition
NVII may introduce honorary recipients as “Dr. [Full Name]” during institutional events only, such as:

Commencement ceremonies

Convocations and conferences
-
Public lectures or special functions of the Institute
This courtesy title is limited to Institute-sponsored environments and does not extend to external use.
5. Nomination & Approval Process

Nominations may be submitted by faculty, board members, partner organizations, or distinguished alumni.

All nominations will undergo review by the Honorary Degree Review Committee.

Final approval must be granted by the NVII Board of Directors.
6. Consultation
Recipients with questions regarding the appropriate use of the honorary title or specific situations requiring clarification are encouraged to seek guidance from:

7. Periodic Review
This policy shall undergo periodic review to ensure it remains aligned with the evolving values, mission, and operational standards of New Vision International Institute. Updates will be implemented as needed.
8. Revocation Clause
NVII reserves the right to revoke an Honorary Doctorate Degree in rare and exceptional cases where:

The recipient’s actions, conduct, or public behavior significantly conflict with the Institute’s principles, ethical standards, or mission.

The reputation or integrity of the Institute may be compromised.
Revocation will occur only after comprehensive investigation, evaluation, and final deliberation by the Board of Directors.
